Louisville, KY- Two former Louisville Metro Police officers, Joshua Jaynes and Kyle Meany, were indicted again today by federal prosecutors for their roles in the 2020 raid that resulted in the death of Breonna Taylor.
The new charges come just weeks after a federal judge dismissed significant charges against the officers. Both Jaynes and Meany are accused of falsifying information to obtain the search warrant used in the raid on Taylor’s apartment.
The indictment alleges that Jaynes and Meany knowingly included false information and omitted critical details when securing the warrant. These actions led to the botched raid where Taylor, an unarmed 26-year-old EMT, was shot and killed in her home. The case became a national symbol of police misconduct and sparked widespread protests demanding justice and accountability.
This latest development marks a continuation of the legal battles surrounding the officers involved in Taylor’s death. Jaynes and Meany previously faced federal charges of conspiracy and civil rights violations.
Attorney Ben Crump, who represents Taylor’s family, said in a press conference, “This is another step in the journey toward justice for Breonna, but we must remain vigilant in the fight for real police reform in this country.”
The trial for the two former officers is expected to take place in 2025.
