For generations, Black men have been taught to carry.
Carry responsibility.
Carry expectations.
Carry families.
Carry communities.
Carry pain.
What we’re rarely taught is how to put some of that weight down.
That’s why events like Men on the Mat: Move // Breathe // Brotherhood matter.
On Sunday, June 28, 2026, Black men from across the Jackson area are invited to gather for an evening centered on movement, mental wellness, brotherhood, and restoration. Hosted by Thick Chick Pilates and Kimar Cain, Men on the Mat is designed to create intentional space for Black men to reconnect with their bodies, calm their minds, and build community with one another.
The event will take place at Conkrete Sneaker Boutique and welcomes men of all fitness levels—whether you’ve practiced Pilates before or have never stepped onto a mat.
Men On The Mat is More Than Exercise
While Pilates is often associated with flexibility, strength, and mobility, Men on the Mat is about more than physical fitness.
It’s about creating an environment where Black men can slow down long enough to check in with themselves.
It’s about breathing with intention.
It’s about releasing stress that often goes unspoken.
It’s about recognizing that wellness isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.
Too often conversations about Black men’s health focus only on what we’re surviving. This event focuses on how we can thrive.
Brotherhood Matters
One of the most powerful aspects of wellness is community.
Healing happens differently when you’re surrounded by people who understand your experiences, your pressures, and your aspirations.
Men on the Mat is an opportunity to build connections beyond social media, beyond work, and beyond everyday responsibilities.
It’s a chance to show up for yourself and for other brothers who are doing the same.
A Growing Movement
Across the country, more Black men are embracing holistic wellness practices—from therapy and meditation to yoga, breathwork, and Pilates.
Men on the Mat is part of that movement.
It recognizes that strength is not defined solely by what we can carry, but also by our willingness to care for ourselves.
When Black men prioritize wellness, entire families and communities benefit.
