It was a Thursday night in June, and thunderstorms were supposed to shut the whole thing down. Rain was in the forecast all day—heavy, relentless, the kind that cancels everything.

But somehow, at Langston Golf Course in Washington, DC, the skies held.

The storms seemed to circle around the course, like the moment was meant to happen. Like the energy of what was about to unfold was bigger than the weather.

And something did unfold.

Over 350 people pulled up for Langston After Dark Pt. 2: Range Night, hosted by the Social Golf Association (SGA). It wasn’t just a golf event—it was a cultural reset. A range party. A community celebration. A reminder that when you bring people together with purpose and joy, something special happens.

The speakers pumped out sound provided by DJ Kidd Fresh, mixing soul, go-go, and hip-hop into a soundtrack for the night. DC’s best food trucks held down the eats. People came dressed like they were stepping onto both a tee box and a runway—sundresses, kicks, polos, club fits, and full personality. Some showed up to swing. Others showed up to vibe. And all of it just worked.

There was no script; just rhythm, joy, and real energy. And no one had to ask if they belonged. They already did.

This is the world SGA is building.

“The range is the new block,” says Cirilo Manego III, founder of SGA. “This isn’t just about golf—it’s about creating a world where you don’t have to question if you belong. For anyone who’s ever felt like they were on the outside looking in, this is your invitation. We’re turning open space into sacred ground—a place to grow, to be seen, and to show up fully. This is what the future of the game looks like—and it’s being built by all of us.”

Founded with the mission to reimagine golf around community and culture, SGA is more than an events group—it’s a movement. A nonprofit. A place where golf is accessible, inclusive, and unafraid to carry flavor and fire. At Range Night, that vision is loud and clear. New golfers take their first swings. Others compete in long drive contests. Many just come to catch a vibe. Everyone leaves feeling like they were part of something.

But this is also about structure. SGA is a registered golf club under the Maryland State Golf Association, sanctioned by the USGA. That means members can track their handicaps, build their skills, and gain access to the broader golf world—all without losing their identity in the process.

“We want you to have fun and get better,” Manego says. “You don’t have to code-switch to step on the course. You don’t have to be a certain kind of person to take golf seriously. What we’re showing is that you can compete, grow, and still show up as yourself.”

SGA’s growth is made possible through partnership—most notably with Langston Golf Course and the National Links Trust, who’ve provided not only the space, but the freedom to create. Randall Thompson, Langston’s General Manager, believed in the vision from the start and helped bring it to life.

And the momentum is just getting started.
