This past weekend, Black With No Chaser’s CEO and Founder, Charles “CJ” Lawrence, was inducted into the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC) Alumni Hall of Fame, an honor that not only acknowledges his academic roots, but also his ongoing commitment to amplifying Black voices, building Black media, and preserving Black legacy.

CJ Lawrence delivers his heartfelt acceptance speech after being inducted into the HCASC Alumni Hall of Fame. Honoring his late mother and grandmother, he reflects on how they nurtured his love for knowledge and community.
The HCASC Hall of Fame recognizes former players who have made significant contributions in their professional and personal lives long after their years of buzzing in. It is not merely about quick recall or academic trivia prowess—it’s about the ways those early experiences shape individuals who become impactful leaders, thinkers, and builders in their communities. CJ’s life and work are a living testament to that mission.
A full-circle moment: CJ is inducted into the HCASC Hall of Fame by longtime friend and Project Leader Jasmine Cockfield, symbolizing years of friendship, growth, and shared commitment to HBCU excellence.
From the Buzzer to the Boardroom
CJ’s journey with HCASC began at Tougaloo College, a proud HBCU in Mississippi where he was a standout player on the campus’s All-Star Challenge team. In his heartfelt acceptance speech, CJ reflected on how his love for trivia and knowledge was passed down through generations, specifically cultivated by his late mother and grandmother. For him, HCASC wasn’t just a game—it was a transformative space where intellect, culture, and community converged.
“HCASC taught me the value of preparation, poise, and power,” CJ shared during his remarks. “But more importantly, it gave me family. It gave me a tribe. And that tribe helped shape the man I became.”
Building a Movement, Not Just a Media Company
Today, CJ leads Black With No Chaser, a digital media company and unapologetic Black lifestyle brand that has amassed a global following for its cultural commentary, political engagement, and creative storytelling. Under his leadership, BWNC has become a voice for the unheard—unfiltered, authentic, and deeply rooted in the experiences of Black people worldwide.
His induction into the HCASC Hall of Fame was introduced by Jasmine Cockfield, Project Leader of both the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge and Honda Battle of the Bands. Jasmine and CJ’s shared commitment to HBCUs and cultural legacy made the moment even more significant.

A Legacy That Continues
CJ’s message to current students was clear: value the connections you make. Whether through campus organizations, academic teams, or social experiences, those relationships can become your most powerful asset in the world after graduation.
“This Hall of Fame honor is about more than just me,” CJ emphasized. “It’s about everyone who poured into me. Every coach, every teammate, every family member who told me that being smart, curious, and Black was a superpower.”
As BWNC continues to grow and amplify voices across the diaspora, CJ’s induction serves as a reminder that legacy isn’t just built in big moments—but also in small, consistent commitments to excellence, culture, and truth.
Congratulations to CJ on this well-deserved honor. You make us all proud—on the mic, in the media, and in the movement.
